The 7th album by the Norwegians HELHEIM ''Raunijar'' stands somehow between innovation and perseverance in the Viking Metal genre. Four years have passed since HELHEIM introduced 'Heidindomr Ok Motgangr'', a masterpiece of cliché-free, pagan black metal. Overall, ''Raunijar'' is the logical continuation of it & an album with character and many great moments, which skilfully continues the previous work of HELHEIMs but also continues to innovate. By the way, the influence of ENSLAVED sometimes shimmers through the choirs, giving the album another nuance. Even though HELHEIM likes to develop and not like walking on already flat-tracked paths, they still know the word constant in relation to the quality of their own art. Of course, the band itself would not interpret the spearhead of the artwork so strikingly, but the Osloers undoubtedly belong to the same viking/black metal. And considering that this squad has existed for 24 years and has not recorded a single negative outlier, it's just overwhelming.
